Dropping.

This is hard for me to come to, but I need to both drop Minato and step down as a mod. This is actually because my life is going so well that I don't have time for RP anymore - you've probably noticed how pitifully inactive I've been. That's really not my usual playing style, and I've had to come to accept that my activity isn't going to improve any time soon.

OPN is my baby, and I leave it in Bella and Daine's extremely capable hands. Trust me when I say that I have full confidence in them continuing the game in a direction I would approve of. :) I will still be around and keeping in touch on plurk, so friend me there if you'd like!

In addition, absolutely contact me about museboxing something if the urge comes to you. I LOVE private story lines and if you don't mind me being slow, I would love to do them with some of the players here! You've all been great and you've turned my 5 AM idle whim of a game into something wonderful.

Keep on keepin' on, and happy playing. ♥

Okay, I have a thousand things to tell you guys! |D Here we go--
  • First off, my idea for turning Passing into a sort of dressing room with player-based apps flopped, so that's not happening! You all raised very good points and I'm retracting the idea. No worries, nothing on that front will be changing. :)

  • Angie is officially on hiatus as a mod, just so you all know! Either way, we're taking on Daine as a new mod, and we're all really excited about it~ so please give her a warm welcome. :3

We've also divided up the mod duties more specifically among ourselves. I (Vivi) will be handling the list updating, as per usual, like the reserves and taken pages, and answering player questions. Bella will be handling the calendar stuff - the actual calendar, but also HMDs, activity checks, and the monthly theme voting and announcing. And Daine will be in charge of advertising and plotting. Yes, you heard right, plotting!

  • Which brings us to: we have a plot forthcoming! 8D No, I don't know anything about it, but rest assured that Daine and Bella are great at this stuff and will probably be involving all of you in the process very soon. It will undoubtedly be opt in, so if you want to ignore it altogether, that's fine, too.

  • We are always looking for more ways to advertise and generate interest in the game. We want to grow and so forth! So please spread the word about Passing if you'd like to, or give us suggestions. I've created a wanted characters page that I encourage you all to use, and I'm excited to announce that there will be a fourth wall event upcoming!

Fourth wall event has yet to be scheduled with an exact date, but I am planning on allowing non-members to request access to the community and post to the main comm itself for the duration, and essentially be game canon. Afterwards their journals will all be booted out again, and it's up to you guys if you want to have your characters remember the interactions they had. I think this will work well and generate some enthusiasm! :D

  • Finally, we are interested in potentially taking on a mod helper, or kind of mod assistant, at some point in the future. If you would like to volunteer for this, please let us know - and don't take it personally if we turn you down. ;) We love you all as players, but we want to keep the mod team very close knit and cohesive, so we'll be pretty selective with who we bring on.

Now comment away! ♥
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
As per the calendar and only a day late, the game wide how's my driving is now up! Please consider participating. :)

I feel awful about this, but I have to drop Willow. :( She takes an absurd chunk of energy for me to play, and is easily the most demanding character I've ever taken on, so she gets the axe first.

I'm planning on definitely bringing in an OC within the next week or two and launching myself back into this game full force! I'm sorry I've been so fail and lagging with tags lately, and barely tagging into new posts - you all deserve so much better and you've been incredibly patient with me. Please hold out a little longer while I get my head on straight. ♥♥

May's Theme

May. 5th, 2011 01:53 pm
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
Regardless of potential excitingness, May's theme is Through the Looking Glass by a very narrow margin! The vote was incredibly split this time, so it'll be interesting to see what happens next month. :)

Go crazy with your AUs, guys! And remember to use this post to plot if you'd like to!
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
So, I've been thinking! I've gotten very busy IRL, and you might have noticed that I'm not around nearly as much as I was in March. I simply don't have the time and energy to devote to making this game all that it can be, but I don't want to give up on it, and I've always wanted to do something I've never seen done before...

Which is to make applications by player, instead of by character, and turn the game into something of a "dressing room with standards". This would mean that applications would be on a more general writing style / characterization grasp standard, and once accepted, players could bring in whoever they wanted. It would eliminate the need for V#'s, and would erase all character limits. Current players would not need to re-apply under this system, as it's assumed you already meet our standards.

Tags would be reformatted to be done by journal name, and the taken list would be a comment directory, with a comment for each letter, a comment for each series under that letter, and a comment for each character under the series. This would be almost totally player maintained, and people could comment and delete their comments from the list at their own discretion. A separate post would be to request journals to be let into the communities. Monthly themes would still be run as they are, and I would likely take on a mod helper specifically to do the voting and announcing each month (since I'm so terrible at remembering to do it, l-lol).

However! I don't want to do such a dramatic shift to the game without asking you, the players, whether you'd support this. :) Please, please please vote and leave any commentary below! ♥

[Poll #1738355]
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
WOW I definitely dropped the ball on this one, guys! Sorry this is so extremely behind schedule. ;; Let's get to it!

Please only vote once, and the winner will be our theme for May. Losing themes will appear again next month in the voting, with some taken out at mod discretion to get us down to twelve potential themes total. The culled ones might make it into the running next time if we're short on ideas. Usually ideas taken out of the running are because of consistently little support for them, or there are others very similar to it.

Theme participation is optional, so if you hate the one that wins, feel free to ignore the entirety of it for the duration of the month. There will be an info post up if it's a particularly involved theme, and you can do plotting in the same post.

Underwater: Potentially in the city of Atlantis, you're all underwater. Mer-people abound.
Dark / Nightmare: A definite nightmare. Darkness, death, decay is everywhere: dead friends, rotting corpses, violent strangers, a broken-down city.
Road Trip: Everyone is divided into cars and is going on a road trip.
Be a Rock Star: Like above, everyone is divided into groups, only this time they're in a band.
Video Games: You're in some kind of video game. Team up, collect items, beat monsters.
Telepathy: Characters are all telepaths suddenly. Moreover, they can be bonded into pairs, with all the hokey hallmarks of telepathic pair bonding. (Mutual co-dependence, strong empathy, etc.)
Timeskip: Characters post from different places along their timeline, or are from a different point entirely for the duration of the month.
Candyland: The whole place is candy. Creativity abounds from there.
Music in Me: Everyone starts breaking out into song and dance, apparently for no reason at all. Problem is, the songs also reveal what the singer truly feels, so if she was trying to hide something, this event will now proceed to reveal it, through the usage of song and dance numbers.
Through the Looking Glass: Characters find themselves traversing alternate universes of themselves not seen in OPN- worlds where they died, where they aren't human, where they didn't save the world in time, ect.
Flip the Chessboard: Characters are now the opposite of what they usually are. Lawful Evil becomes Chaotic Good, male becomes female, slouch becomes hard worker, hero becomes villain. The choice of what kind of trait is flipped is up to the mun's, of course.
Matters of the Heart: Characters suddenly fall in love. It doesn't matter who it is or where he/she comes from, they're in love. Maybe they've always been like this, maybe they're going on their first date, maybe one of them has finally mustered up the courage to tell the other. However, like with any other good love story, there is always an obstacle.

[Poll #1736435]

VOTING WILL CLOSE MAY 2. Feel free to spam and try to garner up support for your theme of choice in the comments. Voting is short this time because I was so behind, sorry! ;;

If you want to change your vote, make sure you're logged into the journal you voted with, and click on the "Poll #____" link at the top of the poll. Top left will be "Fill out Poll". Simply re-select a new radio button and hit submit, and voilá, you changed your vote!
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
I have a few changes to the application process to run by you, all of them minor!

1. Applications now must be put in the comments, not linked to. This is so that we have something concrete to refer to in the future, at least in our notifs, of what was applied for precisely. Journal entries may be edited.

2. Our plagiarism policy is as follows: the first offense will be met without consequence. The second offense results in a one month ban from apping. Subsequent further offenses will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis but most likely incur longer bans, up to and including indefinite bans.

3. We require that the background section of the application be a link in most cases. The only exceptions are OCs, and when there isn't a link available that provides enough information. Otherwise, it is mandatory that it be linked and not written out. In the past we've let this slide, but in truth written backgrounds defeat the purpose of why we require links, so from now on we'll be requesting this to be fixed when it's given to us.

If anyone has any commentary on this, please let me know. :)
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
Hey guys! 8D This is a little ahead of schedule, but I'm so eager to get feedback that I can't wait any longer, lmao. Effectively this post is to check in with you players and see what you like or dislike about the current way things are run, and the way we mod.

I know it's a little unusual for RPGs these days, but in essence I prefer to run things very democratically. If we ever make big changes to the game, rest assured that I will poll you all first to make sure that what we're doing is in accordance with the majority of the players' interests. You guys make the game, not the mods, after all. :) I will try to hold mod veto to only rare circumstances.

That said, we've been open for over a month (yayyyy woohoo) and I figured it was about time to see what you all thought of things! I'm including two general polls, of things that are the major topic of most games' discussions - apps and activity checks. The results are screened so that the statistics are viewable, but who said what is not.

Please feel free to leave comments here to discuss among each other (and us, as the mods) any policy changes you'd like to propose about anything, whatever it may be. Rules are intended to be flexible; I'm here to help the game run, not to police people. If you'd like to leave us a private comment, please use the mod contact page, as comments are screened there. Everything has been great so far, and I love all of you!! ♥

[Poll #1729808]

And finally, the feedback I would have to you guys as a mod to players is:

1. Please please please tag every post your character comments on. Seriously. Please do it. XD

2. If everyone could branch out and tag more posts, I would love it, but I don't intend to regulate this in any way. Just as a suggestion!

3. I'd like to see people getting to know each other OOCly, too, and create kind of a community atmosphere. Again, I don't intend to regulate this at all, it's just what I'd like to see. If anyone has suggestions on how to do that, feel free to tell me! Maybe I've just missed the loop and you're all befriending each other where I can't see it, LOL.

Hey guys, I'm not actually going on hiatus or anything, I'm just dropping you a quick note that I have a lot going on IRL right now so I'm going to be pretty slow! Please be patient with me? ♥

I should still be on top of mod stuff as much as I usually am, so that won't be affected. Characters are [livejournal.com profile] dormition and [livejournal.com profile] guiltapalooza.

April Theme

Apr. 1st, 2011 01:38 am
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
And the winner for April is... Don't Wake Me Up! /the crowd goes wild yeahhhh

Okay uh, the description provided for this is as follows: "A perfect dream. Everything conspires to bring contentment and happiness: seemingly better relationships, jobs, living accommodations, whatever. The catch is, staying too long will be deadly in one form or another."

If you'd like to ignore that catch at the end, feel free to. I'd also like to encourage people to plot out specific dream scenarios and have the "guest" characters in the dream be buying into it. For example, if character A lost the love of their life in a tragic accident long ago, their perfect dream might consist of being reunited with them and living a happy life. Having the people tagging into the post be that long lost love could be an interesting option.

Obviously there's a lot of possibilities here. As usual, use this post to ask questions or plot things out. B) Stay classy.
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
The requirements for March were one post or ten comments. In the future, the expectation will be twenty comments per character per month, with posts not counting toward this. Next week I'll be revisiting these rules and polling the playerbase on how you feel about the activity requirements (and everything else, really).

Exemptions occur if they are newly apped (within one week), or on hiatus. If you believe we've made a mistake anywhere, please let us know! This includes linking us to threads or posts that were made but not tagged.

In the future, please please please remember to tag every post your character comments on because we use it for AC! Don't make me have to rely on my stalking skills, guys. I'm not all-seeing. :(

If you have been idled out and would like to re-apply, they will be held for a week before being processed in order to allow other appers a chance to apply. They will be processed on April 8th; reusing your previous app is fine. Also feel free to plead your case to us if there are extenuating circumstances - we're generally pretty easy-going.

Onto the results! )
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
Please only vote once, and the winner will be our theme for April. Losing themes will appear again next month in the voting unless we get a ton and I have to cull the least popular out. This time two were culled out, but they might make it into the running next time if we're short on ideas.

Theme participation is optional, so if you hate the one that wins, feel free to ignore the entirety of it for the duration of the month. There will be an info post up if it's a particularly involved theme, and you can do plotting in the same post.

ANYWAY, let's get to voting! Here's the descriptions for each theme:

Underwater: Potentially in the city of Atlantis, you're all underwater. Mer-people abound.
Pegasus: A beautiful city in the interior of Earth, covered with flowers and a great forest. In the forest is a pond, and the pure may encounter a pegasus and even be able to ride it for a wonderful chance to fly.
Dark / Nightmare: A definite nightmare. Darkness, death, decay is everywhere: dead friends, rotting corpses, violent strangers, a broken-down city.
Don't Wake Me Up: A perfect dream. Everything conspires to bring contentment and happiness: seemingly better relationships, jobs, living accommodations, whatever. The catch is, staying too long will be deadly in one form or another.
Underwear: It has to happen sometime! You're all suddenly in your underwear.
Road Trip: Everyone is divided into cars and is going on a road trip.
Be a Rock Star: Like above, everyone is divided into groups, only this time they're in a band.
Let's Do a Play: Everyone is part of a theatre troupe putting on a play.

[Poll #1723238]

VOTING WILL CLOSE APRIL 1. Feel free to spam and try to garner up support for your theme of choice in the comments. B)

So if you haven't peaked at the updated calendar, we're having an activity check starting April 1st. Players won't be required to do anything - mods will be going through your character tags on the comm and seeing if you meet requirements, and then posting a list of who passes and who fails.

What this means for you is make sure you have every post your character comments on tagged with their name! The requirements for this check is to have one post or ten comments in March. If you have extenuating circumstances and can't meet that, talk to one of us privately and we might give you an exemption. Ordinarily, ACs will happen on a bimonthly basis with a twenty comment requirement (no post substitution allowed).

This isn't supposed to be nerve-wracking or anything, it's just to weed out people who apped and then never posted. You still have a week to make a post, so please get that in if you don't want to idle out!

In other news, voting for April's theme will go up this Sunday the 27th, so remember to submit theme suggestions if you have any. Voting will last until April 1st on Friday.

And as always, if you have any input on the way the game's being run, or comm-wide OOC events that you think we should have that I've missed, of course let me know! Otherwise... I think we're good. |D Thank you all for making this a lovely experience so far, and please continue to be your awesome selves! ♥

Mod Plurk

Mar. 16th, 2011 06:11 pm
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
Sorry to spam you guys with a thousand mod announcements here, but I just wanted to let you all know that I created a mod plurk! If you don't use plurk, it's not a big deal and you shouldn't worry about it. If you do use plurk, friending it is still optional - it's just going to be used to make announcements and such, and for players that prefer plurk over IM to PM us there if they need to.

Likewise, if you're concerned about privacy, I suggest following it instead of friending it. Uhh... I think that's it. :|a And as always, feel free to friend me, too!

JUST WANTED TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW, I came down with something so I'm going to be kind of out of commission until I weather this out. B|;; I really want to tag you all but I can't focus well, so RP is getting the shaft. /le sigh

This effects Willow and Minato. If you have any modly type questions, please redirect them to Angie, as we are braintwins. o/

I hope to be back soon!!

March Theme

Mar. 7th, 2011 06:42 pm
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
VOTING CLOSED. THE WINNER IS....

Into the Dream, aka characters act out scenes from their daily lives! Part of this theme is that the other participating characters have a suspension of disbelief, and fully buy into the part that they're acting out.

I was planning on doing up an info post, but there's not much point for this because it's so dependent on each individual character, and is rather self-explanatory. Feel free to use this post for ideas and plotting, though!! A couple posts we have already that fit the theme are Ami's post about fighting monsters and Ash's Pokemon tournament, just to give you some examples.

Please remember to tag your entries, and use the !theme: march '11 tag appropriately. B)
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
I know I just posted, but I got the explanation for how we review apps done, so check it out if you want!

The GAME OPENS AT MIDNIGHT EST TONIGHT, MY GAWD FOLKS. I've seen some mention here or there about having an AIM chat for the game, so I've made one called onepassingchat - it's probably empty right now, but once we get to game opening time I'm planning on dragging you all in. B) Or at least inviting you. So, come hang out with us! I edited all the profiles, so if you need an invite to it in the future, there's a link at the top of each one.

Edit: ALSO ALSO I gave the IC comm a new layout because I'm layout obsessed indecisive all those things, and I like this one better. <: Let me know what you think?
[identity profile] passingmod.livejournal.com
I know this wasn't scheduled to go up until the day we open, but since Leah was kind enough to give us a ton of good suggestions, we have enough to get voting! Please only vote once, and the winner will be our theme for March. Losing themes will appear again next month in the voting unless we get a ton and I have to cull the least popular out.

Theme participation is optional, so if you hate the one that wins, feel free to ignore the entirety of it for the duration of the month. I'll write up the info post on March's theme, which will contain a bunch of pictures and description about potential settings, and ideas for plotting. Actual plotting will happen in the same post. In the future, I'd be perfectly happy to take volunteers to write up the info posts if someone is particularly enthusiastic or knowledgeable about a theme.

ANYWAY, let's get to voting! Here's the descriptions for each theme:

Wild West: What it sounds like! Stuck in the wild west.
Still Dreaming: Basically the classic, "you wake up into another dream" scenario. Terrifying situations where the characters keep waking up every so often, still stuck within an equally terrifying situation. Rife with potential for characters not realizing that they're still dreaming.
Into the Dream: Characters play out events from their daily lives with other characters.
Video Games: You're in some kind of video game. Team up, collect items, beat monsters.

[Poll #1713701]

VOTING WILL CLOSE MARCH 7. Ordinarily voting will last a week, but because it took time to get suggestions this month, it's going to be a short voting process. ;3; Sorry about that, guys!

Feel free to spam and try to garner up support for your theme of choice in the comments. B)

Finally, would anyone be interested in us putting up a post explaining our app process? I realized that there's more going on behind the scenes when we review apps than is probably apparent, so if you guys are curious, I'd be more than willing to do a post that explains how we decide and what we look for. Transparency is good for everyone, after all.

OOC Intro?!

dormition: (we'll meet again when you awake)
[personal profile] dormition
HEYYYYYY GUYS I should probably introduce myself, too! I'm Vivi and I'm your head mod, and if you ever need anything, be sure to hit me up~

I'm bringing you a Minato Arisato from Persona 3 who used to be at [livejournal.com profile] dramadramaduck and retains his memories of that. He's a few years post-canon, and has been pretty AU'd by now, so that makes him V2. He's a total linefais but also a pretty quintessential silent protagonist: he'll help anyone and judges no one. So, throw whoever you want at him. I doubt he'll be phased. xD I am soooo excited to get to play him again, particularly this version.

You're also getting a V1 Willow Rosenberg who's between seasons 5 and 6, aka right after Buffy's death. Things might go AU from there since we have a Buffy from that timeline, who's dead and a resident at Passing, and we might have Willow not go through with the resurrection spell depending on how things work out in game. WE'LL SEE.

Willow is an overexcitable, selfish, and altogether magically powerful young woman. She's also a lesbian and extremely in love with her girlfriend. Whatever we go with, AU or canon, she's going to slam up into a magic addiction in the coming season. She's fun and easy to build CR with despite all her faults, and can usually be depended on to help someone in need and pour sympathy all over them unless they happen to step on one of her buttons.

BUT ENOUGH OF THAT, I am like, extremely pumped that this game seems like it's not going to flop (LOLOLOL such confidence I have in myself) and if any of you want to add me on plurk, feel free! 8D Seriously, introduce yourselves, make nice... I'd love to get to know all of you ♥♥
